Suit Seeks Priority Payout For Christmas Club Depositors

A Frederick lawyer and a Rockville attorney petition the Montgomery County Circuit Court to order preferential payment to Christmas Club account holders of the dissolved Family Savings and Home Loan Association. They estimate about 6,000 area residents held accounts, ranging from $1 weekly clubs to $10 weekly clubs, with more than $500,000 tied up. The receiver counters that club participants were not owners and deserve no priority, as 4 percent dividends were not guaranteed. Judge Pugh ordered the receiver to show cause by Jan 26.
