Meetin' Man Jesse Burall Named Master Farmer of Maryland
In Monrovia 66 year old dairy leader Jesse I Burall is named Maryland Master Farmer for his farm 945 acres in partnership with his wife Catherine and family. He has expanded milk production to 18 206 pounds per cow per year with 104 cows while preserving 545 crop acres and 220 woodland. Burall is noted for extensive community service including 4-H Boy Scouts fire company Farm Bureau and numerous agricultural groups and will be inducted Wednesday alongside his grandfather who received the same honor 65 years earlier.

Master Farmer program honors elite producers
The Master Farmer awards honor four outstanding Maryland and Pennsylvania farmers for farm success, land stewardship, and leadership in agriculture. Four honorees will receive trophies at a luncheon at the Penn Harris Convention Center in Camp Hill, with sponsors including Pennsylvania Farmer magazine and state Extension Services.

Diversified Farming Earns Master Farmer Award for Sowerses
Randy and Karen Sowers of Middletown win the Master Farmer award for diversification in dairy, eggs, crops, beef, dairy steer and hogs. Their operation includes 200 milking cows 193000 laying hens about 750 eggs daily 140 acres and 40 dairy steers 130 beef cattle and 150 pigs. They credit land stewardship crop rotation manure reuse and minimal chemical use, with long hours and family involvement driving success. They have prior honors including the Goodyear Conservation Award and Outstanding Young Farmer.
