Battle Of The Budgets As Truman Plans Next Year
President Truman will present a budget for the year starting next July, largely a gesture as Eisenhower nears office to offer his own plan. Congress, as usual, will control the purse strings and may push for economy, likely giving only cursory attention to the outgoing budget of about 873.0 billion dollars. About 5.0 billion dollars remain unspent due to lag in defense, setting the current cost of operating the fiscal year at around 601.0 billion dollars as the new Congress weighs spending limits.
