Maryland car inspection urged to cut highway deaths
L Malcolm Rodman told the Lions Club of Frederick at the Francis Scott Key Hotel that Maryland's lack of a periodic auto inspection system contributes to a 29 percent higher highway death rate than states with such programs. He noted Maryland passed an old inspection law in the 1930s that never took effect and urged enactment alongside the state's point system and chemical tests for drunken driving. A legislative committee has voted to draft a new inspection bill.
