Frederick County would gain about 948 407 in extra state aid if a proposed education bill tied to income tax hikes passes. The boost reflects staffing incentives for low class size and includes 114 000 in incentive funds plus 300 a year starts for new teachers.
Frederick Natural Gas Company finishes the last 6000 feet of a support gas line costing 20000 dollars to form a complete city circle. VP Louis C Kinsey says the final link includes East South street Clarke Place Madison street and new areas and ties into the old 4 inch line near Broadway. The project will double serviceability and allow servicing about 3500 more homes and businesses.
Tammy Davis 16 year old Frederick High School junior will be Maryland Amateur Athlete of the Year at the South Atlantic A A U banquet in Baltimore. She tied the world in door record of 6.7 seconds in New York and set an indoor 70 yard dash mark in Louisville. Davis became the youngest U S national team member in 1963 and toured Russia Poland West Germany and Great Britain.
Baltimore Mayor Theodore R. McKeldin seeks Maryland official support for a plan that would return one fourth of any additional state income tax to counties. Frederick County would gain about 169,931 and Montgomery 2,101,163, based on each area’s share of the total tax.
UN Secretary-General U Thant held a 90 minute session with British diplomat Sir Patrick Dean and Cyprus Foreign Minister Spros Kyprianou as he presses for agreement on an international peace force.
