Maryland seeks energy saving fund to curb demand
Lawmakers Sen. Brian Frosh and Delegate Brian McHale introduced bills to create the Energy Saving Investment Program. A monthly charge of about 75 cents would raise 40 to 50 million dollars to fund programs promoting energy efficiency for homes and businesses, with rebates and tax write offs for consumers making green upgrades. The measure faces opposition from utilities and lawmakers who question cost effectiveness and tax impact, while supporters call conservation cheap and pollution free.
