Bills to shield transportation funds from diversion
Two Maryland delegates from the 1 270 corridor say they will introduce bills to prevent raids on the Transportation Trust Fund. Del. Gene Counihan and Del. Mike Gordon note past diversions and push for highway money earmarked for transit use only or a constitutional amendment requiring a two thirds vote and voter approval. The measures aim to stop raids seen in 1983, when 29 million moved to the general fund.
