Rioting inmates hold 13 hostages in West Virginia prison

Rioting inmates at the West Virginia State Penitentiary seized fifteen hostages Wednesday night and released two by midnight and 5:40 a.m. Two guards were injured while one inmate died during the standoff. Authorities said about 125 to 200 inmates participated, demanding a meeting with Governor Arch Moore over holiday contact visits. The dead inmate, Kent Slie, 38, was serving a life term for murder.
