Plane Crash Injures Student Pilot In Carroll County

A student pilot, James L. Carl, 49, of Randallstown, was seriously injured when his single engine Cherokee 140 crashed into an unoccupied two story house on Oak Tree Road near Clear View Air Park in Carroll County. The crash occurred amid gusty winds and wind shifts as Carl attempted landing practice. Carl was listed in serious but stable condition in Baltimore. Flight instructor Jim McGowan attributed the accident to freak wind conditions and praised Carl as a capable pilot. The National Transportation Safety Board began an investigation as rescue workers and state police responded. The home, owned by Marion Douglass, witnessed the wreckage, with Douglass recounting near-miss moments and the impact on his family and property.
