Grove Firm Wins 340 Contract for U S 340 Relocation

The M. J. Grove Lime Company secured a 1.821 million dollar contract to grade drain and surface 2.2 miles of relocated U S 340 from Route 17 to near Mountain Road and another 1.74 miles from Rosemont to north of the existing highway. State Roads Commission Chairman John B Funk cited several highway modernization awards. Other projects include multiple segments in Catoctin Creek relocation and bridges on Route 17 and Mountain Road with varying completion percentages. An 8 a.m. chimney fire at Raymond Eyler’s Oak Hill Church Road home caused no damage.

Frederick Electronics completes new Hayward Road plant

Frederick Electronics Corporation hosted a Friday tour of its 71 000 square foot plant on Hayward Road north of Frederick. The facility, built by Frederick Business Properties and led by Guy E Kelly, features air conditioning by an eight zone system and room for expansion up to 80 000 feet.

No Checks In Time For Christmas

The Christmas Club holders of the defunct Family Savings and Loan Association will not receive mailed checks in time for Christmas. More than 5,000 checks and over half a million dollars are being prepared for distribution by early next year. Attorney Manuel M. Weinberg expects a court ruling soon on the distribution procedure, likely by Monday.

New Social Security Schedule Shifts to Armory Visits

Retired Frederick Policeman Dies After Heart Attack

Daniel E. Swomley, 69, longtime Frederick City Police officer, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a heart attack. He served from 1934 to 1959, retiring as a lieutenant, and is survived by wife Ethel Marie Myers Swomley, three sons, one daughter, a brother, two sisters, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Olivet Cemetery after funeral Tuesday.
