Watch Dog Slain on Rt 97 in Rural Farm Home Attack
A 14 year old and a 12 year old girl report a stranger drove a truck onto a rural farm on Rt 97 around 6 45 pm. Butch the family German Shepherd barked and threatened the intruder before the man returned to his truck and shot the dog five times. The assailant fled promising to return as Nicholson the truck driver and Mike James found the dog at 7 pm. The James family had adopted Butch from the Frederick dog pound nine years earlier, and Nicholson described the dog as protective and capable on hunts. State Police are investigating with no report yet.

Dogs Are A Problem For Carroll County
Carroll County faces ongoing dog overpopulation and vandalism costs estimated at 26282 dollars per year. About 5040 dogs were registered in 1969–70 yielding 10079 dollars.
