Prisoner Escapes From Frederick County Jail
A 22 year old man, Clarence Earl Williams of Baltimore, escaped Frederick County Jail last night by sawing through a cellbar, using a blanket to feign sleep, and breaking a padlocked door before 6 40. Williams, six feet tall and about 180 pounds, was last seen at dinner around 5 30 and likely left about 15 minutes earlier. Multiple agencies searched. Williams is charged with grand larceny and may be armed. The jail’s security was criticized as inadequate, with calls to replace soft open hearth rolled steel bars with cold rolled steel and to install catwalks between window areas. A guard dog tracked him toward the road. a possible accomplice or vehicle may have aided his escape. Williams’ cellmates reported uncertainty about his plans and some expected he might be released today.
