Farm Bureau Resolution Backs Income Tax Act
The Frederick County Farm Bureau submitted resolutions adopted at its annual convention to Governor O Conor voicing support for the state income tax act and opposition to any effort to abolish or tamper with it. The measure argues the income tax is fair since citizens pay according to ability and warns higher taxes would shift burdens to real property. It notes the shift from a 41 mills tax on securities to a 6 percent tax on investment income, and that local government burdens fall mainly on real and tangible personal property. Homer Wise, of near Johnsville, was arrested by Sheriff Horace M Alexander and Deputy Sheriff R Paul Buhrman on a charge related to an alleged assault, with a hearing set for tonight after his wife reported threats to shoot her.
