Bus Plunges From Ferry Into York River Tragedy Near Gloucester
Gloucester Point Va December 16 reports say a bus carrying white and Negro workers to the Navy mine depot near Yorktown plunged from the Gloucester Yorktown ferry into 15 feet of water. State police indicate a number of men drowned while 25 occupants were rescued. The driver Robert E Paul of Mathews County was among those pulled from the icy waters. Navy salvage crews recovered the bus and rescued workers with minor injuries given first aid at the Mine Hospital.

Three Killed In Wild Plunge Of Mine Hoist
A mine hoist crowded with 14 men broke loose from hillside moorings in Cabin Creek mine area and rolled to the foot of the slope killing three men and injuring five others. The group leaving the Wyatt Coal Company mine at Laing rode the car down the steep descent.
