Charities in Maryland see donations rise with aggressive fundraising

Maryland Revenue Board Cuts Forecast As Sluggish Economy Persists

ANNAPOLIS AP The Board of Revenue Estimates reduced current year revenue projections by 91.7 million dollars and warned the slow economy will keep tax takes rising only about 2.7 percent in fiscal 1997. Governor Glendening cautioned a moderate phased tax cut may be proposed once next year’s budget picture firms up. He cited a 190 million fund and a 370 million rainy day reserve to address deficits. Comptroller Goldstein blamed job losses in banking federal and defense sectors, noting bright spots in construction IT warehousing and transportation. He warned federal spending remains a key variable for Maryland’s economy.
