Senate votes rail workers higher pay this year
The Senate approved an 8 cent an hour raise for 1,100,000 non operating railroad workers by a 74 to 4 vote, sending the measure to the House for possible veto by the President. Proponents argued the raise is not inflationary and would aid workers’ purchasing power for essentials.

Money Spent To Experiment On New Plane Development
Washington reports that Fairchild Aircraft president Carlton Ward Jr testified before a House Military Affairs Subcommittee about funds used at the Burlington North Carolina plant for experiments and for production prep as schedules proved unrealistically optimistic. Burlington managers noted contract changes in March requiring a new type of airplane, with only four of 170 planned planes delivered by November 30, 1943. The committee praised Ward for clarifying the troubled project. No holiday air raid tests will be conducted in Maryland, though alarm testing will occur on prior Saturdays.
