Influenza Nearly Vanished in 1921 Says Insurance Chief
Robert Lynn Cox of Metropolitan Life reported at the life insurance presidents meeting that 1921 saw 153000 fewer deaths in the US and Canada than 1920, with influenza deaths almost eliminated. He warned auto/motor vehicle deaths rose, totaling 2624 in 1921, and cited $170 million in excess losses from 1918–19 epidemics. Life expectancy could rise from 51 to 70 with better disease prevention.

Old Masters Fakes Flood American Market
Gustavus P. Kirby of the American Art Gallery warns that Europe’s fines and wartime wealth loss led to dumping thousands of old paintings and other pieces in the United States that are now exposed as fakes or copies. Some genuine works, like Gainsborough’s The Blue Boy and Reynolds The Tragic Muse, are still found. Meanwhile, the piece notes Java women being taught Western equality and gradual suffrage progress.
