Sir Arthur Pearson Dead in London Bath Tragedy
London December 9 Sir Arthur Pearson founder of Pearson's Weekly and other publications is dead at his home after a bath accident. He slipped struck his head against a faucet fell into water and drowned despite assistance. Pearson organized aid for blinded soldiers during the war and visited Britain in 1919 for his work.

Saving the Inmates at St. Joseph's Home Fire
Jersey City December 9 One inmate died as fire damaged St. Joseph's Home. Attendants, police and firemen evacuated more than fifty women including a paralytic. Several fainted, ladders were used, and a sister aided in guiding children to safety. Firefighters and staff assisted, with no other injuries reported beyond a hospital stay for a guard. The blaze started in a back stair near the chapel and the home, run by the Sisters of St. Joseph, housed men, women and children.
