Viet Cong Killed Near Saigon in Major Battle
AP reports 36 Viet Cong killed by helicopter borne South Vietnamese troops 15 miles from Saigon. Meanwhile 2,500 Marines and rangers push a new offensive into southeastern Cambodia with early success and several U.S. air losses. Casualties include two South Vietnamese dead and three wounded as fighting spreads near Parrot's Beak and the U Minh forest, with a separate Cambodian bridge destroyed on Highway 4 hindering Phnom Penh's land links. A large search for two missing U.S. C128 planes continues, eight days after one disappearance and six Americans aboard.

Resor backs Abrams in My Lai case

Esequiel Torres accusing Abrams of condoning torture stemmed from the 1968 My Lai events. Resor previously dismissed similar charges against Gen Westmoreland.
