Man Sentenced to Death Seeks Reversal in Maryland
ANNAPOLIS Nov 30 A 23 year old former convict asked the Court of Appeals to reverse his conviction by three Montgomery County judges for raping a 3 1/2 year old girl in Silver Spring on Nov 29 1955. George Lightfoot Cole Jr admitted the rape but pleaded insanity. He was sentenced to death after waiving a jury trial in April by Judges Stedman Prescott Patrick Schnauffer and Thomas Anderson. Judge Prescott now on the Court of Appeals disqualified himself from today's arguments. Defense psychiatrists testified lower court action may have been due to brain inflammation suffered in 1949.
