Maryland Corn Growers Vote Set for December 11 Referendum
Maryland farmers will vote on December 11 to decide if base acreages or acreage allotments will determine the 1957 corn program. Chester Bradley notes the measure hinges on a two thirds yes vote for base acreages, while more than one third support for allotments triggers that plan. If base acreages prevail, price supports mirror this year’s national average of about 1.50 per bushel, with eligibility tied to base acreage and Soil Bank participation. If allotments prevail, supports run within 7.5 to 109 percent of parity, with eligibility based on compliance and Soil Bank participation.
