Heraldic Features of Birds in American Emblems
The text argues the national bird is the eagle by Congress definition, notes the American bald eagle’s suitability versus the golden eagle, and discusses beak shapes and feathered “trousers” extending to the feet as heraldic traits. It compares the eagle’s aquiline beam with a sharply pointed tip and describes the hawk’s shorter beak shape.
