The Most Rev John J Dunn auxiliary bishop of the Catholic Diocese of New York died in New York today at age 60. Dunn served as supreme spiritual director of the Holy Name Society and was a pastor for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Born in New York he attended St Charles College in Ellicott City and entered the priesthood in 1896.

J B Royen Dutch minister to Washington died suddenly at his villa in The Hague at age 61 after planning to return to Washington in October following a leave. He had a long diplomatic career and was to become ambassador to America. In Hagerstown Senator Inedict J Boswell 63 realtor and school board member died at the hospital after a Dla week. born in Clearspring he lived with his two sisters.
Weather data shows today rainfall at .05 inch with August total to date 20.22 inches versus normal 3.55. August 1832 record shows 2.01 inches for 24 hours ending with excess in 1933 precipitation to August 1 2.79 inches. A barn, silo, wagon shed, corn crib and machine shed were destroyed by a fire around 3:30 AM about a mile east of Pleasant Hill. James Eyler, tenant, noticed the blaze and alerted the farm. The fire caused estimated losses of over 3000 dollars, partially insured, with the house and outbuildings saved by the Midway volunteer department. The origin is believed incendiary with flames starting in the barn floor.
George Crawford, a Black man indicted in Loudoun County Virginia for murder, asked the Supreme Court to review a First Circuit ruling that he be held in Boston for extradition. In Peoples Court Justice Bennett considers suspending a speeding penalty for Edward J. Fitzgerald of Baltimore who admitted guilt after speeding through Frederick toward Hancock at 66 mph. Magistrates will decide after consulting the State's Attorney. the case notes a 40 mph minimum fine of 25 dollars.
A Texas girl was kidnapped by assailants on a lonely Dallas road. An escort was shot during the incident and the victim was hospitalized in critical condition. The crime prompted renewed police search efforts and a public safety alert.
In Philadelphia August 31 two men died and at least 18 were injured as about 200 police clashed with uprising strikers and sympathizers outside Cambria Hosiery Mills. A truck overturn sparked violence as workers were trapped and missiles shattered windows.
