Unassuming Marchibroda Excels With Little Fanfare
Baltimore handled coach Ted Marchibroda over a lengthy NFL career with quiet success. He transformed a 4-12 Colts into a 10-4-5? team in 1975, guided Indianapolis to a 9-7 record in his second stint, and developed stars like Bert Jones Jim Harbaugh Roman Gabriel Sonny Jurgensen Billy Kilmer and Jim Kelly. He led the Colts to three AFC East titles in the 1970s and nearly reached the Super Bowl with Indy last season before leaving after 1995. An unpretentious figure, Marchibroda left with little fanfare and a readiness to move on.
