Maryland inmates serve about sixty percent of sentences
Maryland inmates average 60 percent of their sentences, nearly double the 33 percent national figure, says Len Sipes of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. He notes increased beds since 1987, including new facilities and gym beds, helping avoid mass releases and allowing programs like home detention and boot camp for nonviolent offenders.
