Frederick County students head back to school amid a blistering heat wave with highs in the mid to upper 90s. Forecasters warn little relief through the weekend as humidity drives the heat index to 105 to 110 degrees. Forecasters expect a front to bring some relief on Sunday, while muggy nights linger into Friday.

Frederick County Transportation Bureau Chief Hudak said repairs to the 19th century Utica bridge will begin as soon as replacement timbers arrive. A farm wagon with a Yarda wagon cleared its 12 foot limit Wednesday, tearing a cross beam and causing $2,000 to $3,000 in damage. The bridge spans Fishing Creek near Lewistown and uses remnants of a larger prior structure.
