Water Users To Pay More In Hagerstown Area

The city will raise water rates for about two thirds of nonresident users starting with the November billings. The flat rate per 1,000 gallons increases to a minimum of $7.50 per quarter, with county consumers paying this new tier and city residents unchanged. About 19 of 2,729 out of town customers will see a reduction, while over 550 current 60 cent rate payers gain a 15 cent rise per thousand gallons. The change raises annual city revenue and affects bonds due from 1956 onward. A separate note mentions a new method using radioactive phosphorus to help determine malignant mole status.
