Frederick businessman conning suppliers faces suspended sentence
Raymond Theodore Stancil, 45, pleaded guilty in Frederick County Circuit Court to stealing building supplies donated to repair a fire damaged home. He used the materials to build an office in Thurmont for his firm Matthews Pool and Patio. He admitted posing as Red Cross or Remodelers Council representative to solicit donations from five firms. The judge imposed the maximum petty theft sentence but suspended it with 240 hours of community service and a $1000 gift to the Red Cross.Several firms donated materials totaling plumbing, windows, doors, wood framing and nails. Police found letters from a fictitious family thanking donors at the Thurmont office. Defense says restitution made and apologies issued to firms.
