Melvin F. Schwearing of Independent Hose Co. Frederick was elected president of the Frederick County Volunteer Firemen's Association at the 32nd annual convention in Rocky Ridge. More than 100 firemen from 16 companies attend with a parade tonight featuring 95 units starting at 7 p.m. Also elected were Miller Thurmont first vice president Barker Walkersville second vice president Beard Walkersville treasurer Moore Frederick secretary and trustees Mumma Hahn Wirts Blickenstaff White and Bittle. The meeting installed by state official Lochary. Over $560 was raised for Muscular Dystrophy and plans for the Frederick County Central Alarm were discussed.

FCC Hires Eight New Instructors
Frederick Community College adds eight full time faculty as it plans its inaugural year for day and evening classes. Richard F Burge of Johnstown Pa will teach accounting and management with a BS in business education from the University of Pittsburgh and expects to finish his master's this month. Dr Dorothy V Elliott of 2101 Spout Spring Road joins to teach sociology and psychology holding BS and MS from Ohio State University and Columbia University.

City Bike Registration Lagging in Frederick
Major Charles V. Main warns bike owners to have bicycles inspected and registered by Monday or risk pickup. Police expected about 3,000 registrations this year, but by Wednesday only 1,300 had been registered and just 19 all day. Farmers Blame Delay on Federal Drought Aid Plan
Frederick County farm leaders blasted an Agriculture Department move to delay drought aid that would let farmers buy livestock feed at discount prices while officials in Washington approved a diverted acreage program for hay and pasture. Maryland's Rep. Mathias said he urged further aid, calling the diverted land plan practically worthless and noting scant benefit on Frederick County land. The drought disaster committee chair Harold Free said the program seemed insignificant and some members did not want to request it initially.

Evening Diploma Classes Open For Dropouts At Local High School
