Junk gear tracks satellites in Hong Kong observatory
Hong Kong's weather satellite work uses a pile of junk to track Tiros and Nimbus signals. Director Gordon Bell says the crude setup, including a pole, coil, disc, drum and brick storehouse, yields million dollar results. A 20-year-old assistant and a watchman operate the system day by day. The watchman notes the work as truly real science in progress.
