Nearlyn Alynching Stirs West Chester Police Attack
In West Chester Pennsylvania on August 14 two men, William and Theodore Halliday, assaulted Officer John Entrekin after he tried to break up a quarrel in Tincup alley. Entrekin was slashed and nearly killed before a half-naked pursuit ended when another officer arrived. The crowd pursued the assailants, who were roped and brought to town. Entrekin remained alive but badly beaten and is hospitalized.

Washington Aug 14 President Gompers of the American Federation of Labor accuses Chairman Shonts of the Isthmian Canal Commission of misrepresenting the Chinese exclusion law. Gompers argues the law applies to all areas under U S authority and notes Shonts denied intent to employ Chinese workers while seeking to avoid the eight hour standard. Fatally Shot on Trolley Car Incident in Harrisburg
A motorman on the Steeltown line near Harrisburg was fatally wounded during a fight on his trolley car by an Italian assailant who fired at close range. Three Italians, Frank Lewis, George Pase, and Lehmangy, were arrested. Frank Lewis admitted firing, claiming intoxication and anger.
