Hood College Hosts Nutrition Science Institute For Teachers

Fifteen Maryland teachers spent two weeks at Hood College exploring nutrition as a laboratory science. The program, now in its second year for graduate credit, included labs, lectures, software demonstrations, field trips, and guest speakers. Grants from the Maryland State Department of Education supported the event and aimed to prepare teachers to offer nutrition science as a secondary school course for science credits.

Deaf Access and FC Emergency Center aid hearing impaired

Deaf Access Services and the Frederick County Emergency Communications Center team to alert public safety personnel when residents are deaf or hard of hearing. Using Computer Assisted Dispatch, the address screen will show if a resident is deaf, part of a five point public safety plan. Officer Mark Buchen helped launch the project, which aims to improve emergency response for deaf and hard of hearing residents in Frederick County.
