Veterans callmounting as Pyne faces medal theft charges
ANNAPOLIS AP Stephen Pyne surrendered to prosecutors amid a flood of veteran calls after he was charged with stealing medals from three Maryland residents. State attorney spokeswoman Kristin Riggin said more than a dozen people contacted the office in two days while three victims are confirmed. Pyne, booked and released, cooperated with investigators. Navy Cross recipients described how he gained access to homes claiming to write a book, with one veteran noting his medals were replaced by copies. Witnesses warned of a thriving market for medals, swords, and decorations and the need to recover items for rightful owners. Most calls originate in Maryland and nearby states, with some arriving from as far as New Jersey and Texas.
