Baltimore gains fame as quirky convention hub
Baltimore draws odd groups from jugglers to sod producers, lured by the Inner Harbor and famed for crabcakes and “Hey Hawn” greeting. Convention officials cite growing attendance since 1979, with 350 000 delegates in 1990 and $43 million spent in 1980.
