In Dinwiddie Virginia a single engine Cessna crashed at Petersburg-Dinwiddie Airport killing Herbert Monroe Duvall 54 of Boyds and injuring pilot Robert L Pope 54 of Damascus and Mona C Pickett 52 of Walkersville. The three were en route to Fort Lauderdale on business and had taken off from Davis Airport before an initial problem forced them to land. The cause is under investigation.

500 foot MPT tower to boost Frederick County signal
Frederick County residents will gain a 500foot Maryland Public Television tower near Fishing Lake eight miles southeast of Frederick replacing a 25,000 watt transmitter with a 3.5 million watt unit. The upgrade increases reach into Montgomery and Carroll counties and parts of Washington D C. Bruce Herget says the new transmitter is 90 percent efficient and FCC compliant. Construction will remove about 100 trees but new pines will be planted. red anti collision lights will add cost. The system should go on line in early September with possible minor antenna adjustments for some viewers.
