GI Bonds To Be Cashed By Local Banks
Frederick county banks will redeem thousands of GI terminal leave bonds starting September 2 under a new act. About 6,600 local World War II veterans, 85 percent of holders, may participate as banks cash bonds worth roughly one million in Frederick County. Bonds in the nation totaling 1.8 billion par value will be redeemed with two and a half percent interest. Veterans should bring original discharge papers for identification and banks are reimbursed per item by the U S Treasury. Many use bonds to fund national service life insurance. Veterans urged to apply soon if not yet cashed.
