British Colonization Scheme in South Australia Centenary
An article notes Britain’s 100 year old South Australia land grant plan offering settlers a path to land through labor rather than cash. Each of 100 families received 16 000 acres with a 200 pound loan via merchants, repaid through progress and output in 13 years, enabling independent work. The system boosted irrigation, stock, and farming as South Australia grew to 500 000 residents. The 1936 stamp marked the centenary.

Lewis Hobbs Reunion Brings 1500 In Jessup Park
The third annual Lewis Hobbs reunion of Maryland families from Frederick and Montgomery counties drew about 1500 people Sunday at Jessup Blair Park near the DC line despite one third of the clans missing. Judge Lewis Hobbs of Colesville traced the tie to his grandfather’s marriage to a Margaret Lewis noting Huguenot roots and a link to Betty Washington, sister of the first president. Indoor baseball barge shoe pitching and old fashioned socializing highlighted the event. The United States has an annual oil output of about 758 million barrels.
