Rate cuts sought for APS utilities in Maryland and West Virginia
Maryland and West Virginia consumer groups filed a 100 page complaint with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission asking to cut electric rates for All¢gheny Power System and three subsidiaries including Potomac Edison by about 16 million dollars annually. They argue lower financing costs from dropping interest rates justify reduced charges for funding a 1.7 billion Bath County pump storage plant in Virginia in which APS subsidiaries own 40 percent. If approved Potomac Edison would pass roughly 4.5 million to its 280000 customers in western Maryland. West Virginia and Virginia PE officials had no comment.
