Brush Burning Time Is Set By State Law

State Forest Department officials announced the strictest enforcement of the ban on trash burning in wooded areas before 4 p m on Thursday after the second forest fire in a week near Mt Pleasant. A brush burn near Route 26 caused a 3 quarter acre blaze in eight year old timber and prompted calls for more help from Camp Detrick. Firefighters battled the blaze through the afternoon, with Kendall and others staying to mop up until around 7 p m. Court actions were pursued against two residents for illegal brush burning and suppression costs. Despite rain, winds kept woodland fire danger high and all area fire towers were manned.
