Future Of Shangri-La Unclear Amid Capital Plan Debate
President Eisenhower has not decided on turning Shangri La in the Catoctin area into a retreat for disabled Maryland children. White House spokesmen cited Navy ownership and park service review, noting the lodge’s adult sleeping rooms and modest original cost make it unsuitable for a children's camp. Senator Beall backs the idea, while Eisenhower cuts the presidential yacht to save money.
