Emmitsburg fights to keep library in town
About 35 residents urged the Frederick County Library Board to keep the Emmitsburg branch at the community center amid plans for a potential regional library. Officials cited ADA standards and cost to renovate, while residents called the library a social hub and essential link for a small, isolated town. The board expressed support in principle but can only recommend to county commissioners.

Escargot entrepreneur builds dream from snail farm
Ken Ohler and Elizabeth Younkin run Pennsylvania Snail Farms, raising about 6,500 snails in a spare bedroom and selling to high end restaurants from Pennsylvania to Washington, D.C. They moved from door to door in Pittsburgh with 15 corsage boxes weekly, priced at 32 dollars per box, and last year nearly 14,000 snails were raised. Ohler, 54, envisions a 12,000 square foot Somerset County plant with 68 workers to process up to three million snails into croquettes and meals, a future funded by his belief in fresh escargot over canned.
