In a bridge decision, South doubles down on three diamonds aiming for a party score, trusting West to make three clubs and East to fail three diamonds. West doubts the likelihood, fearing a four club loss, while East expects to set three diamonds.
South ruffed the third round of clubs, ruffed in hand, and after a spade lead, finessed the jack. East won with the king and returned the suit. South won with the ace, played the eight of diamonds, East produced the six, and South, after study, led diamonds safely for a three-diamond contract. This illustrates competitive part-score bidding in bridge.
Las Vegas November 217 Singer Eddie Fisher was shaken up after his car was struck from behind near the Tropicana Hotel. He was treated with sedatives and placed under a physician care. Miss Terri Altman 38 Las Vegas, driver of the rammed car, was cited for reckless driving. Fisher received a ticket for not having a driver license in his possession. Robert J Kerr driver of the third car was not cited. Neither he nor Miss Altman were hurt.
