Verdict for 35000 Former Predericktonian Wins a Salt in Baltimore
A Baltimore City Court verdict awarded William Ff. Main six thousand dollars in damages against the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company for injuries from a pole fall on Fair Avenue December 2, 1901. Main, then a lineman, was ascending to remove wires when the pole broke. He spent eight weeks in the hospital and still suffers leg and ankle injuries. Judge Daunte denied moving the case from the jury. company attorneys argued Main should have inspected the pole. The judge said life and limb are not cheap and poles should be inspected rather than rotted and fell. Attorneys were W S. Thomas for the plaintiff and G Dobbin Penniman and S Carter for the company. The company will likely appeal to the Court of Appeals.
