William E. Van Ormer was arrested by B&O Patrolman R.D. Webber at the Brunswick yard, alleged to be a deserter from the Marine Barracks at Annapolis. He was sent before Justice Jordan and jailed for five days. Deputy Sheriff Emory Nelson transported him to Frederick and notified Commander Dorn at the barracks. No word had come from the commander by morning.
The United Drill Association was incorporated yesterday under the United Steam Fire Engine Company. Headquarters will be at the United Engine house for forty years with no capital stock. Officers for the first year include President George T. M. Shuffler, vice-presidents John M. Wilson and Samuel E. B. Shaw, Secretary George F. Topper, and Treasurer William D. Lipps.
The Grand Lodge of Odd-Fellows adjourned yesterday after agreeing to assume charge of the Odd-Fellows Home at Ellicott City at the Home Association’s request. The action aligns with 25 other state lodges. A $5,000 appropriation was made to entertain the Sovereign Grand Lodge meeting in Baltimore next September. Retiring grand mentor Mc Eagens S Anderson received a jeweled emblem of the order.
The Humane Society removed eight and seven year old George and Florence Miggo from John Earl on Washington avenue, with Earl jailed for mistreatment.
