Half of Local Dentists Do Not Accept Medical Assistance Cards
A telephone survey of 30 Frederick County dentists shows 15 refuse new patients with Maryland Medical Assistance Cards, four accept only for select services, and 11 would welcome such patients. The study notes about 2,000 county residents use the cards, and program funding comes from local, state, and federal sources. Dentists accepting the cards report smooth reimbursements from the State Health Department, while some critics call for broader participation.

Showers Could Break Drought in Statewide Dry Spell
Weather outlook hints at Wednesday showers easing a long dry period that has prompted state fire officials to ban open burning. Temperatures were in the mid 70s today with a 75 degree high yesterday and 42 degree low overnight. Light winds turn southerly as clouds bring rain late tomorrow, though precipitation may be too light to end the tinder dry conditions.
