Mass Voter Registration Drive Brings 954 New Registrants
Prospective voters crowded the board during a two day registration push for the May 19 presidential primary. A total of 470 registered Friday and Saturday, 484 earlier in the year, bringing new registrants to 954. Saturday marked the final day at Winchester Hall. 276 additional voters registered there. The 28,000 plus eligible voters in the county may include more registrations as clerks focus on processing the surge.

Fatal accidental gunshot ends youth’s life in Maryland
Paul Francis Delaney aged 19 formerly of this city and now of Rockville was killed Saturday afternoon when a .22 revolver he was playing with discharged in the head. Dr Benedict Skitarelli certified death from an accidental gunshot wound to the right temple at the home of Miss Vivian Durst near Cumberland. Durst said she had asked how he would kill himself with the gun and that Delaney placed the revolver to his head. she believed the weapon was unloaded. State Police in Cumberland ruled the incident an accident. Delaney had previous local trouble and was charged with petty larceny on April 9.

Trucker Pinned Under Wreckage In Maryland Crash

Teen Drivers Charged After Parking Lot Collision
A 16 year old Frank Jewell and 19 year old Charles Stone were charged with minors in possession of alcohol after Jewell, driving a 1956 Ford, crashed into three parked cars on East Third Street around 9 30 p m. Jewell faced additional charges for failing to drive to the right of center. Damages totaled about 1320 dollars. A second incident on West South Street involved Stanley Burdette who was charged with drunken driving after backing into a parked car.

Train Derails Near Sjamsville Causes $4000 Damage
About 6 p.m. Sunday three cars of a Baltimore and Ohio freight train derailed near Sjamsville and caused approximately $4000 in damage. A lumber load shifted triggering the derailment. two other derailed cars were involved. Clean-up crews cleared the tracks by 4:45 a.m. and traffic was rerouted via Washington.
