State police bid fond farewell to stately Rockville barracks
Maryland State Police leave the Rockville brick building after 25 years as the I-270 widening and Md. 28 ramp changes force relocation. They move to a temporary Gaithersburg site at 15 Deer Park Road for 19 to 24 months while a new Seven Locks Road barracks is planned for completion in late 1989.

Two vandals sentenced for graffiti in Finecliff Park
District Court judge ordered Stacy Wirts aged 19 and Floyd Truitt Jr. aged 18 to perform 20 hours of community service and pay $25 to have an insect design painted over in Finecliff Park. Arrested March 7, police report. Other teens present unnamed.

Fire destroys waterfront businesses in Baltimore
Fire raged along the Fell's Point waterfront destroying at least three businesses on Autoline Lubricants Inc. property. Over 200 firefighters fought flames overnight while state and federal agencies removed more than 6,000 gallons of oil from the harbor.

County suspends officer charged with rape in Florida
Rockville Montgomery County Police Officer Ron Perry twenty seven of Sjamsville was suspended without pay after being charged in Florida with raping a Montgomery High School student. Acting Chief Donald Brooks ordered the action. The officer, a seven year veteran assigned to Germantown, was moonlighting without authorization during Easter break. The student reported being followed by three men and drinking before passing out on the officer’s bed. Bond set at one thousand dollars. Internal affairs opened a probe.

Skeletal remains IDed as Howard County man
The 28 year old Michael Wayne McLaughlin of Jessup was identified by dental records as the Howard County man found April 2 in woods near 15900 block of New Hampshire Avenue Wheaton. Police say he was a cocaine user and linked to a friend’s killing. the stolen truck carried cocaine.
