Matinee Theater ends after NBC run amid low audience
Matinee Theater will broadcast its final drama on NBC on June 27 after a costly run. NBC invested about 32 million dollars, but sponsorship has dwindled from 15 of 20 weekly periods to only a few. The program yielded quality drama and employment for about 5100 actors, but viewers largely shifted to other offerings such as American Bandstand and The Verdict Is Yours.
