Time To Begin Lawn Care Now
The home owner should start lawn work by raking leaves and debris to roughen soil without pulling live clumps. Apply fertilizer 10 to 15 pounds per 1000 square feet, add a thin top dressing of screened sandy soil, rake to even spots, then seed at three pounds per 1000 square feet and roll lightly if conditions allow.
Lawn Soil Foundation for A Healthy Lawn
Guidance for lawn establishment and maintenance includes top dressing with screened sandy soil humus and fertilizer to encourage deeper root growth four inches of manure enriched topsoil and four to six inches of porous subsoil. Apply with a mechanical spreader and mow at about two inches height, fertilize early in spring and again in late summer, keep mower maintained, and remove weeds as they appear.
