British Experiments Brighten Elderly Lives At Home
A two year trial in Durham Britain tests a day hospital model allowing elderly patients to receive hospital care while living at home. Patients attend two to three days weekly, receive therapy, meals, and social activities, easing loneliness and reducing permanent hospitalization. A second program uses 266 retired employees to visit 15,000 pensioners, costing about 11,000 dollars yearly with no pay for volunteers.
